Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
- The Program Director, Student-Athlete Career Development will oversee program management and coordination concerning career readiness initiatives for student-athletes. This position:
- Manages the Barry & Mary Gossett Fellows Program and lnTERPship Academy.
- Recruits employers and student-athletes for participation in both.
- Strategically plans student-athletes with career development, job placement; promote and secure internships, experiential and employment opportunities utilizing resources within the University Career Center, and the M Club.
- Oversees and implements the brand management of Maryland Made Terps, including the Maryland Made Podcast.
- Serves as the liaison to the University of Maryland’s Career Center and the Athletic Department’s M Club.
- Hosta educational career seminars and networking events for student-athletes.
- Provides regular communication through the Careers4Terps and Maryland Made Terps LinkedIn pages; and performed other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Master’s degree required in higher education, sports management, student affairs, or related field.
Experience:
Master’s degree required in higher education, sports management, student affairs, or related field.
Experience:
- One (1) to three (3) years in student development in an NCAA Division I program.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing career readiness programs.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives for effective career readiness preparation.
- Possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Excellent oral and written communications kills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and handle various tasks simultaneously.
- The ability to complete assignments on time.
- Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with coaches, student-athletes, staff, university, and external constituents.
- Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgment, and problem-solving techniques.
Preferences:
Preferences:
- Knowledge of NCAA and Big 10 Conference rules and regulations governing student-athlete.
- Demonstrated experience in using social media to support educational and outreach initiatives.
- Knowledge of, and/or experience assessing current and future project expenses, making appropriate expense projections, purchasing recommendations/decisions, and budget recommendations.

While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee operates a computer and other office devices such telephones, copy machines, fax machines, etc; Constantly moves about the facility and event site before, during and after events to service clients; constantly communicates via telephone, email and in-person with others to exchange accurate information. Standing, walking, kneeling/crouching, balancing and lifting up to 20 pounds.
